Sangria for a Toddler?

18 Apr

This is insane…an Olive Garden right here in Lakeland served a two year old a cup of sangria rather than the orange juice his parents had ordered him.

How does this happen? When I first heard about this I thought it was a joke, but after hearing it on the news I immediately questioned what the staff was doing that this huge mix up could have occurred.

Niko is your average, hyper, two-year-old. So his mother, Jill Van Heest, didn’t suspect anything was wrong with him when he started acting up during dinner. Van Heest said Niko only grew more restless, began climbing on the furniture, and getting louder.

“I couldn’t discipline him because he wasn’t acting out, he was drunk,” said Van Heest.

The manager ran over to the families table and dropped the horrific news, telling the parents that rather than oj in their ons cup it was tropical sangria. Van Heest rushed her son to the hospital to have him examined.

Olive Garden took responsibility for the accident. They said they take the business of serving alcohol very seriously and are relieved the child was not hurt. They also said that what happened was an extremely regrettable accident caused by the failure of an employee to follow Olive Garden’s strict operating procedures.

Jill Van Heest has hired an attorney, and plans to sue.

Wow! I was first attracted to this blog post by the interesting title, but then to find out this accident actually occurred in Lakeland is so shocking. I would have to seriously question the management at this Olive Garden because how could a mix-up of this high of a degree actually occur? The restaurant is very lucky they are not being further reprimanded for this incident. What a crazy story!
